Sheep Shearing & the 6 Nations

Top class International shearers compete in fast paced and highly skilled shearing competitions throughout Thursday and Friday.

On Friday 4th June, the Royal Bath & West Show will proudly host the inaugural 6 Nations Sheep Shearing Competition, sponsored by Blackthorn Cider, with top class shearers from England, France, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Each country has selected their top three open shearers to compete as their national team. Each team member will be challenged to shear seven sheep against the other five nations whilst spectators witness their skill, determination, strength and speed. The competition has taken place for many years, hosted in rotation by the Royal show of each nation, however this is the first time in the history of the competition that France has been represented.

Competition shearing has done much to raise the overall standard of sheep shearing. Good clean shearing without damage to sheep or wool remains the first and overriding priority. Speed is a bonus only when the quality is there.

On Wednesday and Saturday, you can also enjoy shearing demonstrations including a contribution from the local Guilds of Spinners and Weavers.

The Royal Bath & West Show is very grateful to it's supporters and sponsors including Lister Shearing, Blackthorn Cider, Fernhill Farm, George Mudge Shearing Equipment, The Best Family, The Castle of Comfort Inn, The Worshipful Company of Woolmen and Zintec Feed Supplements.
