Yesterday, The Duchess of Edinburgh attended the Field to Food Learning Day 2024 at the Bath and West Showground in Shepton Mallet.

The Field to Food Learning Day is an annual day focused around educating the next generation about farming and food production. It has become an integral part of the Society’s work in informing and educating young consumers about where their food comes from, and the hard work farmers do to make sure we eat the very best of British food.

The Royal Bath & West of England was delighted for The Duchess of Edinburgh to see the hard work and dedication that goes into creating such an event, and to see the invaluable learning experienced by the school children during the day packed with activities.

The Field to Food Learning Day 2024 saw over 1,400 Key Stage 2 pupils will descend on the Bath & West Showground, for the Society’s 6th Annual Field to Food Learning Day. It was a day packed full of interactive activities and demonstrations, educating children all about the process of field to fork, giving them the opportunity to look, hear, smell, and get their hands dirty – one of the most effective (and fun) ways to learn!

Royal Bath & West representative, Lilanie Self says “It’s so lovely, it’s just heartwarming. It’s such an important message to get across and it’s one of our favourite days in the calendar for the whole team. Also alongside that, it does fit in with their curriculum which is really important to us. We make sure that it’s a valuable day out for them. They’re not missing out on classroom learning because what they’re doing here will link back to what they’re doing at school.”
