Joey Gardiner (Friday)
Despite only being 21, Bimm Student Joey Gardiner has been seriously knocking on the music industry’s doorstep. Self proclaiming that ‘early 1975 vibes’ was the aim, and a main and clear influence on the body of work he was set to write. Whilst the conventions and feel of young, indie bedroom pop are there, the rule breaking shines through as his catalogue takes on a more rough and ready rock like feel with a nod to some darker subjects, touching upon mental health and addiction. After releasing a string of singles over lockdown, he’s been met with a great response from a local South West audience, and actor Paul Cooper giving him full support.
With a set of singles released throughout 2022, Joey also caught the attention of Adam Crowther from BBC Bristol upload. Where he was track of the week with his single “Dirty Cigarette”. With each single for the rest of 2022 Adam put a spotlight on each song with some very kind words. This led to Joey being invited in for a live set for BBC Bristol in January of 2023. Where he performed 8 of his own songs and a cover of “Purple Rain” by “Prince”. The live lounge was spread throughout the week and was followed by Adam’s enthusiasm with a quote “Joey has a very bright future ahead of him and it has been amazing to have you in for this week. An artist I have been really excited to see here in the studio for a long time, certainly one to watch.”
