Skool Beanz

Lara Honnor founded Skool Beanz children’s gardening club in 2021 after completing a diploma in Social and Therapeutic Horticulture and working for acclaimed No-Dig gardener Charles Dowding. Inspired by Greta Thunberg and the millions of children around the world standing up for our planet in their Fridays For Future campaign, Lara wanted to ‘do’ something to help her community and the nature within it. So she started volunteering at her local primary school running an after-school gardening club and took on a neglected allotment in her village of Chilthorne Domer near Yeovil transforming it into a beautiful colourful children’s garden. There the children learn how to grow delicious vegetables, stunning flowers and how to garden to help nature, with plenty of upcycled art and fun. To celebrate National Children’s Gardening Week Lara has designed a Skool Beanz children’s garden for the Bath & West show, taking the important elements from the original Skool Beanz garden which she believes all children’s gardens should have. Her mission is to get proper children’s educational gardens and clubs created all over the country and beyond.

Pop Up Gardens

The Pop-Up Gardens Competition will return to the Royal Bath & West Show 2024 & we are looking for people with a passion for gardening to get involved! This year’s theme is ‘Sensory Stages’.

Create a captivating 4 x 4 metre display garden that embodies the theme of Sensory Stages. This garden should provide visitors with a multisensory experience whilst showcasing the use of sustainable materials and practices. The design should inspire and educate visitors about the importance of sensory awareness and sustainable living.

The competition is open to individuals and businesses who would like to showcase their gardening skills. Each garden will be professionally judged and there will also be the usual ‘People’s Choice’ Award as well. You will be able to bring your team to the Show to talk to visitors about how you created your garden and promote your own organisation (not to mention getting to see the rest of this fabulous Show).

Entries are now LIVE for the Pop Up Garden Competition.

Entries close 29th March 2024.
