At the Royal Bath & West Show 2022, The APE project (Art, Play, Environment) secured the coveted Prince of Wales Award. The APE project aims to enhance the lives of children and young people through the provision of open access play opportunities and activities. They strive to facilitate an open, supportive, social environment where children and young people are encouraged to take ownership of the play space and decision making, to create an inclusive, egalitarian play space for all.

The Adventure Playground is used by 700 children every year. In the 22-23 year they expanded their services to offer an additional fully inclusive session for our disabled users. This has been hugely successful, and feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.

With the support of the Prince of Wales Award, The APE project was able to do the following:

  • Replace the access slope to the Zip wire.
  • Replace the whole zip wire structure.
  • Employ a carpenter for two days to do a series of repairs and safety measures.
  • Convert a shipping container into a sensory space.
  • Purchase hardware, paint & new nets.

A huge thank you to The Ape Project for sharing their report with us. The winner of the Prince of Wales Award 2023 will be announced at the Opening Ceremony of the Royal Bath & West Show 2023, on Thursday 1st June.
