This year The Safety Zone will be focussing on a range of different farm safety information for people living, working, or visiting the countryside. Each company and charity in the Safety Zone will offer vital information and guidance to keep us all safer within our rural communities. British Horse Society will be focusing on their ‘Dead Slow’ campaign. The Safety Zone is here to help keep everyone in Somerset safe – at home, at work, at play.
This will be Crestmoor’s 6th year of sponsoring the Safety Zone at the Royal Bath & West Show so they will have many new, and exciting activities for you all!
Crestmoor will be joined by organisations and charities such as Avon and Somerset Police, British Horse Society, Doc Bike, Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service, Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, Mind in Somerset, National Highways, RNLI, Somerset Road Safety, South Western Ambulance Trust and Young Somerset – who share the aim of promoting and providing guidance on safety.
This year Crestmoor will be promoting Drivers Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC). Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) CPC keeps profession bus, coach or lorry drivers competent in their job role. In the 35 hours that a driver must uptake every 5 years, they get taught theoretical and practical skills. This includes new rules and regulations that they may have been unaware of previously.
Crestmoor offer five different course options for this:
- Drivers Health, Safety and Wellbeing
- Emergency First Aid at Work
- Competent Driver
- Safe Loading and Manual Handling
- Mental Health and Emergencies
Drivers will need to complete their 35 hours of CPC before September 2024 deadline so Crestmoor will be very busy running courses for drivers up until September.
The Safety Zone will have lots of interactive activities and sessions for you to join in with and the opportunity to learn from Avon and Somerset Police and the other organisations.
South Western Ambulance Trust will continue to promote the importance of knowing how to use a defibrillator as well as the DefibMap App at https://www.defibfinder.uk/, which shows the locations of all public access defibrillators across the UK. You can gain confidence in your ability to save a life by taking part in demonstrations.
The What3words app will also be highlighted because it is the simplest way to talk about location. Street addresses are not accurate enough to specify precise locations, such as building entrances, and do not exist for parks and many rural areas.
This makes it hard to find places and prevents people from describing exactly where help is needed in an emergency so the What3words app at https://what3words.com/ is an ideal solution.
