Welcome to the Federation of Small Businesses trade stand.
The FSB was created to lobby on behalf of small business owners. Led by
the Westminster Press and Parliamentary office pressure is placed on
Government and MPs in their constituencies so that small business
friendly polices are introduced and this is replicated by local
Branches who have the responsibility to lobby their local councils to
make sure that the interests of small businesses are protected.
The Western Region of the FSB operates across Somerset and Wiltshire
where over 7,000 members join forces under the banner of 8 Branch
Committees. Each Committee organises events to help members promote
their businesses as well as lobbying locally to protect their members

The FSB prides itself on its unbeatable member benefits package, that
includes legal assistance and support 24 hours a days as well as access
to 14 service providers providing services from telecoms, finance and
IT support. Last year, the helpline received over 140,000 calls, the
majority of calls on employment matters but also dealing with issues
such as commercial contract, landlord and tenant and consumer affairs
as well as tax protection.
The future will see further work being undertaken. There is concern at
Government plans to give local authorities further revenue-raising
powers through Business Improvement Districts and for congestion
charges, and the continuing burden on employers in administering
welfare payments through the payroll. The regulatory burden is also a
particular concern. On these and other issues, the FSB is fighting for
a better deal for small businesses. The FSB is in an ideal position to
influence policy with its direct access to politicians and civil
servants in Westminster and Whitehall.
