Welcome to the Somerset Food Links trade stand.

Somerset. More recently, Somerset Food Links has supported a direct delivery service for local food and drink – Somerset Farmers’ Market Direct.  Helping people get access to fresh, affordable food is another objective. Somerset Food Links is working with community groups in urban areas such as Yeovil and Chard to help them set up consumer co-operatives that spread the cost of buying fruit and vegetables.

SO WHY BUY LOCAL FOOD?

*  It means that fresh, good quality food is available - with its undoubted health benefits
*  It supports the small businesses that make up the local rural economy
*  It cuts down on environmental pollution through unnecessary journeys involving food
*  It re-establishes positive    contacts and communication between farmers, food producers and consumer

Educating people about the benefits of locally produced food is also a priority for Somerset Food Links. The project provides an information service for members of the public, many of whom are keen to find ways to help farmers and other rural businesses. Likewise, by supporting school gardens, community gardens and other food projects in the county, Somerset Food Links continues to take its positive message to young and old.
