For the Rescue and Rehabilitation of Abused and Abandoned Greyhounds

Greyhounds make wonderful family pets in the right homes. They have affectionate and patient temperaments and contrary to popular opinion, don’t require vast amounts of exercise or food.

As a charity, GRWE is very fortunate to have a group of experienced volunteers who support the rescue and re-homing process, as well as organising events to raise awareness and funds. We have no paid employees and do not own any kennels. GRWE receives no financial support from the greyhound racing authorities towards the welfare of the very dogs that underpin this whole industry. We rely totally on the support of the public for donations to pay for the cost of caring for the dogs. Our major expenses are the hire of kennel space, and veterinary fees.

The geographical area covered by GRWE is dependent upon our financial and human resources, and at present includes all the counties from Cornwall, across to Bedfordshire and northwest to Cheshire. At any one time we are caring for between 40 and 60 dogs. Homechecks are always carried out first, and around 500 dogs were placed into suitable loving homes last year. For an entirely voluntary organisation this is a remarkable achievement of which we are justifiably proud.
