The ‘Spring Festival of Food & Drink, Somerset County Council Supporting Farming’ event will bring together all the county’s farmers’ markets in the largest event of its kind at the Royal Bath & West Showground on 8 and 9 March.

Somerset County Council and the Royal Bath & West of England Society have joined forces to launch the largest Festival of Food & Drink in the county the events aims to help Somerset farmers after recent outbreaks of Foot and Mouth Disease, Blue Tongue and
Avian Flu.
The ‘Spring Festival of Food & Drink’ is set to showcase a host of Somerset produce in time for Easter. Take home a delicious array of food and drink to make your weekend mouth wateringly memorable. With a variety of Ciders, Meats (including Bison and Duck), Fish, Cheese, Pies, Cakes, Breads, Chutneys, as well as Vegetable Plants, Crafts and Organic Food Delivery Services, there’s just about something for everyone. You can also enjoy the varied cookery demonstrations, workshops and fun and educational competitions for all the family.
Competitions (adult and children)
Join in our medley of competitions to have the chance to win some excellent prizes!
- Guess the weight of the fish - Fancy Fish for supper? Guess the weight of the fish and enter your chance of taking it home with you!
- Identify the cut of meat - squeeze in a little extra shopping by having the chance of winning some vouchers.
- Vegetable Art - let your youngsters have a go at getting creative with vegetables! All art will be displayed throughout the event.
- Somerset County Council Selection - a fun variety of hands on and stimulating competitions at the Somerset County Council Stand.
- Workshops: Kitchen Skills hosted by The Thoroughly Wild Meat Company. An opportunity to watch, learn and have a go at preparing your meat when you get it home; from sharpening your knives correctly to seasoning the meat for maximum flavour.
Cookery Theatre
Chefs showcasing their skills whilst using ingredients you can purchase on the day and go home and cook that evening whilst you are inspired!

Paul Hartley - Breakfast Menu
Paul has a passion for Somerset Food & Drink and is devoted to breakfast with cultures and recipes collected worldwide. He has a Saturday morning programme on BBC Somerset and regularly writes for the Mendip Times. He has also written a series of cookbooks on cooking with Marmite, Mustard, Worcester Sauce, Tomato Ketchup and Golden Syrup.
Allan Earl - Lynton Cottage Hotel
Allan has worked at Lynton Cottage Hotel, a two rosette restaurant, for three years as a Chef and became a partner two years ago. He always tries to use local produce as much as possible, endeavouring to develop recipes with a wow factor.
Darren Edwards - Crown Hotel, Exford
Darren has worked at The Crown Hotel, a 2 rosette restaurant, for 16 months. He is qualified in all aspects of the kitchen, and his cuisine is modern English and French. Darren ensures that the majority of his ingredients are sourced locally.

David Hammond - Ston Easton Park Hotel
Voted Young Chef of the Year by Les Chaîne des Rotisseurs Bailiage, David Hammond is one of the rising stars in fine dining. Passionate about local and organic ingredients, David works closely with the Ston Easton Park head gardener and uses the outstanding organic produce grown in the hotel’s own 16 acre kitchen garden.
Elisha Carter - Charlton House
“Elisha Carter is a young chef of mercurial genius” (Giles Coren, The Times). Elisha uses the best available of local, seasonal and organic ingredients including White Park Beef, Rare Breed Lamb, Venison, and Organic Spelt to create dishes both exciting and delicious. He was awarded the “Somerset Life” Chef of the year 2007 and also awarded the Silver Medal for Bath chef of the year 2007.
