Welcome to Greyhound Rescue West of England

Greyhound Rescue West of England (GRWE) is the leading independent greyhound rescue charity in England & Wales, dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of abused and abandoned greyhounds and greyhound crosses. From humble beginnings the charity now rehomes almost 500 of these special dogs every year.

Our main areas of operation are Hertfordshire, Worcestershire, Herefordshire, Gloucestershire, Shropshire, Cheshire, Lancashire, Somerset, Dorset, Devon and Cornwall, and with representation as far east as Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire and Hampshire.

GRWE takes in greyhounds and greyhound crosses from members of the public, veterinary surgeries, dog wardens and the police. We also help trainers and owners rehome their racing greyhounds and dogs also come to us from general rescue centres. Some greyhounds also come from as far afield as Wales, Scotland and Ireland if resources allow.

GRWE takes in greyhounds of all ages, from puppies to geriatrics! Some dogs are cruelty cases, physically and emotionally scarred and damaged. We nurse them back to health and help them learn to trust humans again. Some are so scarred by their ordeal they need a long period of foster care before rehoming, others need very special permanent homes. Fortunately, greyhounds are by nature gentle, very resilient and will still be wagging their tails gently even when found in the most deplorable conditions.

We are constantly humbled by the grace and gentleness of these noble hounds - not least their willingness to forgive the pain inflicted and learn to trust us again.

This web site is dedicated to the memory of Dr Ella De Gray Jones whose generous legacy has funded its development and hosting.
