Portsonachan Hotel
.....Gaelic for 'Port of Peace'.
Steeped in history, this idyllic location is an excellent resort from which to explore the surrounding countryside and its many attractions. The Clan Campbell stronghold of Kilchurn Castle stands at the north eastern end of Loch Awe. The location of the hotel offers glorious views of the loch and the mighty Ben Cruchan.
Our magnificent Cruchan Restaurant runs for over half the loch side frontage of the hotel. The excellent menus are complimented by the superb views from the tables. The cuisine is modern Scottish.
The cuisine covers all tastes by providing a full range of food including an extensive choice of vegetarian meals. When you want to relax, read a book or just enjoy a quiet drink in our panoramic conservatory, which offers truly spectacular views of the east side and northern end of the loch. From the conservatory you can see Ben Cruchan, also called the Hollow Mountain, due to the hydro electric dam. The dam is located halfway up the mountain and we recommend that guests take a closer look at this marvel of engineering by taking a tour at the visitors centre on loch Awe. The hotel also serves breakfast every morning in the conservatory with the panoramic views providing a spectacular backdrop to this important meal of the day, which includes a range of traditional Scottish fare.
After a long day exploring the area you can retire to our bar which stocks over 30 Highland malts and an extensive range of drinks which caters for all tastes. If you wish for a lighter meal, a full bar menu is available at very reasonable prices. You can access the conservatory from the bar and therefore enjoy a splendid meal in comfort whilst soaking in the surrounding scenery.
The Hotel has a mixture of family, double and twin rooms, all with pleasant outlooks and en-suite facilities. But for that special moment why not reserve one of our loch view rooms which are available for a reasonable supplementary charge. Our guest lounge is a comfortable and cozy area where you can browse through our library, sit and play board games or just relax in front of the fire. This room is steeped in history and has ambience that must be experienced for you to understand the very special place in history this hotel enjoys. Occasionally throughout the day guests will be able to experience the joys of the pipes.
