LONDON CLASS BATTLESHIP BELIEVED TO BE HMS PRINCE

The Chevalier Edoardo de Martino CVO (1838-1912). Grey wash. Signed not dated.
This delightful sketch shows a London Class battleship viewed from ahead and wreathed in gun smoke. A very typical de Martino, the painting is believed to be HMS PRINCE OF WALES . Martino, Marine Painter to the Royal Yacht Squadron (1894) and appointed Marine Painter in Ordinary to HM Queen Victoria (later in 1894), was a highly sought after artist of the late Victorian/early Edwardian era who was much patronised by the Royal Family, especially The Prince and Princess of Wales. The Royal Collection, the Maritime Museum Greenwich, the Walker Art Gallery Liverpool and galleries in Montevideo and Rio de Janeiro all have examples of his works.

Limited Edition: 150
Standard print size: 8.75 x 6.75ins (22 x 17cms) approx.
