THE BATTLE OF TRAFALGAR – 2.30 PM

One of the definitive paintings of the battle and known throughout the world, WL Wyllie’s “2.30 pm”, an oil on canvas measuring 9 x 5 feet (3.54 x 1.96 m) belongs to, and hangs in,,Britannia Royal Naval College Dartmouth (BRNC) in Devon, England. As directed by BRNC, Maritime Prints & Originals has undertaken to produce a limited edition run on canvas and card, the total together restricted to a maximum of 750 copies worldwide. The canvas oleographs are printed by a refinement of the the giclee method and are supplied varnished by hand and either stretched on a wooden former (C1 S and C2 S) and ready in all respects for fitting to a frame; or merely rolled (C1 R and C2 R). Those on card are printed by lithographic offset. The latter can be purchased either mounted (L1 M) (“matted” in US parlance); or simply rolled (L1 R) for ease of postage. The former (L1 M) are supplied in a single mount (matt) with wash and lines and with the names of the ships painted in watercolour by hand underneath the corresponding ships in the painting (as is done on the frame of the original oil painting) and with TRAFALGAR – 2.30 PM: WL WYLLIE (1851-1931) at bottom centre, also painted by hand. Or they can be supplied rolled, thus enabling the purchaser to mount the picture as desired.
