The Instant Garden Challenge (2011)

The 2011 show is now over but please read on or click on the links in the top right of this page to find out more about what you missed.

The Instant Garden Challenge is an exciting new feature for 2011 that will see two teams create a garden in just two hours, using a selection of plants supplied by Cheddar Garden Centre. The whole challenge will be narrated by our M.C. Kathy Crouch, recent BBC Gardener of the Decade.

Each garden will be marked out and retained with sleepers and will be 3m x 3m in size. Friday's competitors will be working with plants that they have chosen themselves, while Saturday and Sunday's competitors will be working with plants that have been chosen for them by professionals.Cheddar Garden Centre are generously providing £1,000 worth of plants (flowers, trees and shrubs) and non-plant accessories for each team.

The challenges will take place from 1.30pm every afternoon of the show. At 3.30pm the gardens will be judged by two official judges and prizes and certificates will be given. The crowd will then be asked to vote for the ‘People’s Choice ‘ garden by a show of hands.

The teams are:

Friday -  Stuart Hendrich and Dan Pearce
Saturday – Joe Hashman and Daniel Rigden
Sunday – Nunney Gardening Club and Wedmore Gardening Club
