First Project Underway

Sir Robert McAlpine Ltd began construction of a one storey Special Educational Needs School for the Fosse Way Trust on 5 October; Mendip Free School will provide a fantastic state-of-the-art learning environment for 120 children aged between 4 and 19 with Autistic Spectrum Disorders and Language & Social Communication Needs. The school is scheduled for completion in September 2016.

Despite typical Mendip weather work has progressed well over the last few months. Groundwork continues to move forward but the main focus in January has been the structure and envelope of the school building. As the structural steel frame has been completed works are now attending to the roof and ground floor slabs.

Key Activities

Construction of the new access road and installation of incoming utility supplies means that there will be lane closures on the A371 between 29 February and 5 May 2016.

Unfortunately the removal of some existing hedge lines and trees has been necessary to make way for new infrastructure works, however when complete the infrastructure landscape and swales work will offer an environment for local wildlife.
