HelterSkelter

Bath and West Village School

It may be half term but our Village School on the Village Green is as busy as ever showcasing Somerset schools and displaying the excellent work and activities they do.

Who we are!

At the Village School you will find a team of volunteers committed to sharing knowledge and skills. Most of us have an educational or child care background.

Where to find us

You will find our pavilion on the Village Green and at our school the weather never stops play. Throughout the week our team of volunteers will provide you with free* activities and entertainment. This gives the big kids (you!) the opportunity to relax while watching your children have fun, so why not take a break with us. You will also be able to view our colourful exhibitions from schools across our region, representing activities that take place in education today.

How is the village school funded?

The only activity we charge for in the Village School is face painting. The proceeds from this are used to purchase new face paints and materials used for the craft activities. We have a dedicated team of face painters on hand ready to turn your children into tigers, monsters, butterflies and much, much more!

What’s on this year?

Each year we give our school a theme and base the activities and displays on this. Our theme this year is ‘Discovery’.

We have huge plans to keep children of all ages occupied with lots of activities going on every day of the show including interactive activities with Somerset Film and getting up close and personal with bugs, spiders and all kinds of other insects with Pete from Big Bug Bag.

Keeping with our Discovery theme, children will be able to ‘pan for gold’ and even ‘dig for treasure’.

We will also be running cooking sessions for children in our very special child size fully working kitchenette.

On Thursday we will be indulging in puddings with help from the Somerset Pre-school Learning Alliance Pudding Club.
Friday we will be cooking with Dad’s ‘Can’t Cook, Won’t Cook’ style!
On Saturday we are going from ‘cupcakes to muffins’ with the help of Emma Britton from BBC Somerset.

water

Pan for gold in our water trays and search for ancient artefacts in our archaeological dig, you may discover some sinister findings!! Children will receive a certificate for their discoveries.

Bug

With the help of his collection of giant creepy crawlies Pete from Big Bug Bag can lead the children on a fascinating journey into a world where hairy legs are used to "see" with, leaves turn out to be animals, scorpions use scissors and crickets have a very unsavoury way of defending themselves!

Somerset film

Take part in some interactive activities with Somerset Film. This is a chance for children to conjure up and create their own plasticine models and use these to make a short animated film.

Preschool

The under 5’s play area run by volunteers from Somerset Pre-school Learning Alliance, including play dough & painting. The charity is celebrating its 50th birthday this year.
